The neighborhood is going through gentrification. It's the Spanish and the Arabs this time.
I have seen this before when I lived in what is now called "The South Loop". Back in 1981, I remember how actually traffic would skirt the area, for the most part. It was a comfortable place. During the summer nights sitting on the curb and talking bs and cracking jokes was the norm.
Then the empty railroad property was bought for miles around and condos were built.
After a while, the police would run us off the curbs because we intimidated the new residents (or so it was said).
Soon it was hard to find cheap places to live in. South Downtown was no longer a friendly place.
One by one, the small business either failed or left for greener pastures.
The buildings that were left became condos with prices that shouted " get out you poor people!"
The lesson is that money talks and bs walks.
That said, let's talk about money!
Click on the business site and Buy, Buy, Buy!
I'll see you soon, God willing .
